Watercolour by Maya Yin

Maya Yin has been dedicated to watercolour for 20 years. Every time her watercolour brush touches the paper, it becomes a silent dialogue between watercolour, moisture, and time, an expression of deep sincerity and a profound love for life.

Standing at this point in time and reflecting on floral watercolour painting, the goal for Maya is no longer to simply paint realistically, but to capture the vitality of flowers and their almost translucent quality. Moreover, it is also about finding a balance between botanical precision and artistic expression. This is achieved through the use of both wet-on-wet and dry brush techniques to render the delicate edges of petals and the depth of shadows; employing negative space to reveal moments of highlight; observing the angles of blooming flowers, the curl of leaves, and the strength of their stems; and combining softness and definition to convey the depth and breadth of the space in which the flowers exist.

Maya believes that every exploration of the mysteries of watercolour has resulted in vibrant colors on watercolour paper, cultivating a gentle and delicate perspective on the world. She is eager to share her experiences and bring the beauty of watercolour to anyone who loves it.
